Taxes aren't arbitrary – they are hard earned money. The public must know how tax money is utilised and why. Moreover, could citizens choose to directly fund public projects with the taxes that they have to pay anyway?
[CitizensPay] is a public engagement tool that enables citizens to actively shape their communities with a proportion of taxes that they already pay.
Newropa relies on all of its citizens being active members of society – who want to shape it for the better. Newropa, as a society, provides the tools to do so.
CitizensPay gives citizens more say in the public projects that are carried out in their communities by enabling them to directly contribute to those projects through their taxes. It makes sure that the local governing council explains the purpose of the project, the budget required and the timeframe clearly in order to get public funding.
The tool also visualizes the progress of the projects that the citizen chose to fund, and shows them the projects that others in the community are funding.
FIND AND FUND PROJECTS THAT YOU CARE ABOUT
Explore public projects in your neighbourhood by category and topic of interest or check out what your friends and those you follow are funding.
STAY IN THE KNOW WITH PROJECTS
Although you directly fund projects, the actual project cost is much higher than the required amount shown on Citizens.Pay. This remainder is paid for by the government using the tax amount that you do not choose where to spend. However, projects are only taken on if they reach the goal set on Citizens.Pay.
You can also track the progress of the project, know who is accountable for it and see who else in your network is funding the project.
FIXED and clear OPTIONS FOR CONTRIBUTION
To prevent people or institutions from funding only projects that are in their interest, each member can only contribute a minimum of €25 and maximum of €75 to a project.
If you do not believe a certain project should be undertaken, you can choose to downvote it. If the amount of downvotes exceeds a certain threshold, a public committee is called to resolve the issue.
